Pigs on the Wing
Making music isn’t enough anymore, as Lowkey — British-Iraqi rapper, educator, activist and host of “The Watchdog” podcast on MintPress News — tells us in his song, “Palestine Will Never Die.”
I say that making music is great but it’s not going to stop the bombs from falling. I’ve thought a lot about this and have done extensive research on the subject so I know what I’m talking about.
And what I know is that the powers-that-be are afraid. They’re running scared, and the worse it gets for them the more violent they’re going to become. You’re seeing it all around our country. You’re seeing fascism in action. It’s almost like a recurring dream that we have.
Think back to 1970 when the police opened fire on peaceful student protesters at Kent State University — students who were protesting just like the students today are protesting. Today’s students are protesting not only against an unjust and unjustifiable war but also against the machine that feeds war. The machine that takes our tax dollars and sends them across the world to drop bombs on brown people in faraway places that we will never see because our news is sanitized.
And then they create these narratives around it and say…”well, we’re doing it to protect democracy.” But they can’t even protect democracy in our own country so what on earth are what are they talking about?
Who are they to point the finger at China, Russia, Iran, Yemen or even Venezuela, for that matter? When we don’t even protect democracy here.
It’s a joke. And they wrap it up in patriotism, put the flag around it, and they pretend that what they’re doing is for our own good. But it’s not. It’s for their good, not ours.
I’ll leave you with this thought. If there’s anything you can do to stop the machine, no matter how great or how small, do it. Don’t stop. Don’t hesitate. Don’t wait. Say what you see and see what you say.
